Tomie: Forbidden fruit is the fourth movie based on the manga by the renowned manga horror artist Ito Junji. This movie is also linked with the three movies that were made before it, so, those of you who did not watch the other three before, you don’t need to panic. The story is still concerning the demon who takes on a form of a gorgeous young woman and then goes into another woman’s life, destroying her relationships with other people and driving them insane and eventually making them commit murder.
The story of this sequel does not go far from the previous ones. More time is spent on the demon making her way to the lives of her victims than the horrible and terrifying results off her diabolical plans. As a consequence, the movie’s story was slow and sometimes boring, but in all fairness, the movie is really not that bad, the movie seems domesticated and offers only entertainment. This is a disappointment because Tomie herself is a very creative character.
The movie starts like the usual, it starts with Tomie, a creative person that is harassed by her classmates and lives with her father. The Evil Tomie comes into the picture and seduces her father, Kazuhiko. The Evil Tomie manages to make her father believe that she is his past lover from the past whom he had seen been murdered. Kazuhiko eventually snaps and makes her daughters’ life a living hell that resulted in bloodshed. This was the plot used before in the previous movies, but, there is a twist, see the movie if you want to see it.
The director has left no space for other elements to go in and mess the movie up. Some of the time, you will wait for something to happen, but surely, there is excitement in those moments when there is something happening most especially those creepy parts.
Here is the verdict on Tomie: Forbidden Fruit. This movie is somewhat running towards the horror genre and has the theme “teen angst”. If they added more plots to the movie, it would have been better.
