The movie entitled The Red Sense was a 2006 Khmer Australian supernatural thriller movie. This was the first directorial job of Tim Pek and produced by Transparent Pictures. This was initially released in Australia and scheduled to be shown in Cambodia soon. This highly acclaimed movie was a tale about an estimated three million innocent lives who were massacred mercilessly. It included a pious and quiet man named who was separated from the woman of his life, Melea. However, miles apart, she had lived a comfortable life. Until an unfortunate incident had transformed this into a nightmare. The spirits of her loved ones were crying for justice because of their killing by one ruthless man behind the terrifying murder of her beloved father. Now, that the decisive moment had finally come to face the man who made their lives miserable. The cry for justice will soon be over and the spirits of her loved ones will finally shed a tear of everlasting peace and happiness.

“Red Sense” can be alluded to as a “coming of age film” for the masses. Moreover, it has within context a universal theme that can touch the depths of anyone’s heart of any race and generation across the globe. Tim Pek, the director of this well- known movie can personally relate to his work of art, since he saw with his innocent eyes, the terror, and the gruesome murders of innocent people. The film was based on real stories that have been tagged as “taboo” up to the present. Contentious as it is, the film was banned in Cambodia due to some undisclosed reasons.

As of my personal judgments of the film, It was a very promising one. The mere fact that the director had been directly a living witness to the cruelty of the perpetrators, the emotions being poured out in the movie will really melt the heart of everyone. Its story brought out the Khmer Rouge quite well, if not excellently. The viewers must see in this film how the pain of starvation, deprivation and torture made Cambodia, a so called “Killing Fields.” Next, were the deplorable and inhumane conditions in refuge camps. Even if I am not personally involved in the making of the film, I can say that the cast gave their best performance ever. Overall, the film is highly recommended and excellent.
