The Quiet Family is a South Korean horror – comedy movie shown in 1998, directed by Kim Ji Woon. It was a story about an extended family that had migrated to the city, to reside in a huge house in the mountains. The house was later remodeled into a lodge purposely intended for hikers. On the other hand, The “Quiet Family” was composed of middle – aged patriarch, his wife, a sibling and children. The climax of the story was the various misfortunes suffered by the protagonists in the movie.. However, their patrons still come and eventually stay with them.
The first guest was a hiker who asked for a room and a couple of beers. After a drink, the visitor forged the key holder of his room, which was made sharp enough which he used to commit suicide. The next morning, he was found bathing in his own blood and lifeless. The owner of the lodge came up with a sudden decision to bury the body in the woods. Therefore. no one would suspect that it was a suicide, Few weeks had past, a couple had visited the place for a stay and have a romantic and blissful moment with one another, The next day, they were found dead How could this be and who does the intriguing crime?
In entirety, the movie illustrated how a “chaotic and maladjusted” family became more united in the face of a crisis which haunted their lives However, this crisis became a “blessing in disguise” because they tried their very best to surmount the problem by working on it with unquestionable solidarity. Moreover, the film itself displayed how a household can dump and bury the corpses in shallow graves in utmost secrecy. This adds to the film a sense of suspense and mystery at its finest. Moreover, the “Quiet Family”, though it was actually a comedy – horror flick, can easily bounce back from the extremes within the storyline. In addition, the unconventional camera work and the bouncy Western pop soundtrack superseded the quirkiness of the film likewise, minimized the comic appeal of the film. Further, the additional apocryphal element in the film can be considered as a product of “overactive forms of creative imagination”. Despite of some flaws in this black comedy, the character development and the acting of the performers were very great! My rating? Highly recommended.
