BH Entertainment confirmed that Korean Wave Star Lee Byeong-Heon will be joining the cast of the newest Kim Ji-woon thriller film “I Saw the Devil”. Although the contract was not signed yet, an official of BH Entertainment, Lee’s agency, said that Lee will star in the film as a man who goes after a psychopath who killed his girlfriend. Lee made his mark in the industry in the Park Chan-wook film “Joint Security Area” in 2000. He also played the role of Stormshadow in the recently released live-action adaptation of a popular comic book “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”. Other notable film credits include “A Bittersweet Life” in 2005 and “The Good, the Bad, the Weird” in 2008.
Kim Ji-woon will take the helm of the movie. Kim was supposed to direct a Hollywood of the French heist movie “Max et les ferrailleurs” but focused on the “I Saw the Devil” because of some delays in the production of the Hollywood film. The film “I Saw the Devil” originally had the title “Night in the Subtropics”. Kim and Lee worked together in “A Bittersweet Life” and “The Good, the Bad, the Weird”. He established himself as a premier director in “A Bittersweet Life” and “A Tale of Two Sisters” which achieved both commercial and critical acclaim.
Aside from Lee, joining the cast of the film is Choi Min-sik, who will play the role of the psychopath. Choi last starred in the 2008 film “Himalaya, Where the Wind Dwells” He also starred in two of Park Chan-wook’s The Vengeance Trilogy, the 2003 award-winning film “Oldboy” as well as “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance” in 2005. The film “I Saw the Devil” is set to start production in February.
