The trailer for the live action movie version of Tekken recently came online recently. The trailer has shown a lot of promise in terms of action as well as trying to remain authentic to the video game franchise by keeping the look of the characters and using real martial artists as members of the cast. Playing lead in the movie is Jon Foo as Jin Kazama, a martial artist who carries a huge burden with him. The only way for him to free himself of his burden is by winning the King of Iron Fist tournament. Foo is an actual Wushu martial artist. Other members of the cast are Hiroyuki Tagawa, who played Shang Tsung in the first live-action “Mortal Kombat” film, mixed martial artist Cung Le, former kickboxer Gary Daniels, and Kelly Overton (“The Ring 2”)

The film is set in 2039 where much of civilization was destroyed by world wars and what’s left is now ruled by private corporations instead of governments. The most powerful corporation sponsored a tournament where the top fighters in the world eliminate each other until only one will stand – The King of Iron Fist. The movie, which is based on one of the most popular videogame franchise with the same name, is directed by Dwight Little – who was at the helm of several American television series such as “Dollhouse”, “Bones”, “Prison Break”, and “24”.  Little also directed some noted action, thriller and horror films in the 80’s and 90’s. These films include “Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers”, Freddie’s Nightmares”, “Marked For Death”, and “Murder at 1600”. The movie was originally screened last November 5 in the United States in the hopes of finding a distributor for the film. It will debut on March 6 in Japan and is distributed by Warner Bros.
