Japanese Movie Sukiyaki Western Django is directed by Takeshi Miike, starring Hideaki Ito, Masanobu Ando, Kôichi Satô. The movie was a chronicle of lone gunman who helped a prostitute to get revenge on the belligerent gangs who were in search of gold that might be found in the hills. This movie contained numerous references historically speaking, the “Gempei Wars” and “Wars of the Roses”, “Yojimbo” and “Django”.
As to my personal perspective about the movie, I viewed it as a mix and match quality of titular delicacy carrying the influences of history, in which the story was actually based. In brief, the film highlights the cross – pollination of cinematic value rather than s one-way street influence. To best characterize this movie, I would say that the word that best describes it was its “bordelessness” In other words, it was something without a thought, which for me, was the soul of every film. To prove this, there were mix and match of scenes such as samurais mixed with cowboys. Shakespeare with Henki – Genji wars, outdoor locations, alternately mixed with theatrical backdrops based on ukiyo e- designs action melds with modern dance. For me, this did not add to the real picture that Sukiyaki wants to say to the viewers, Instead, it created an element of confusion to the moviegoers who want to see the film. Likewise, the genre, nationality, chronology, and even gender were bleak. With all of these flaws, I cannot envisage the film to attain a box office success. The worst thing about this film was the fact that the events in the movie were repeated like a broken record that does not serve the purpose it intended to deliver. In other words, it has a thousand roots; however, it never blossomed into an enigmatic film.
Imagine, it all stated with a plot about a lone gunman who came to a town caught in a crossfire between two rivalries of gangs, a marginalized circumference of conflict, the presence of the main character broke a standoff thereby, accelerating in a way the long delayed duel between opposing clans. This was a good start of course. Nevertheless, the problem was it failed to develop the story from the so called exciting plot. But I guess, the only consolation of the film for the viewers is to see how the two rival clans outnumbered one another through their action techniques and outrageous gun firing exploits
Overall, the movie for me is trully recommended.
