Silk is a story of a French military official who married a schoolteacher. The lead character in the story decided to leave the army to try another job of being a silk trader. In the movie, Joncour was immediately sent to Japan for a dangerous mission. The twist of the story began when he met local baron Hara Jubei and slowly falls for his mysterious and yet precarious trap – having a romantic liason with Hara.
The film looked enticing and gorgeous as far as the cinematographic element is concerned. In addition, the actor in the said movie gave a colorful acting performance, as well as the actress herself, whose performance was very much convincing especially the scene in the poolside. On the contrary, the lead actor failed to convince me with his acting skills, as he tends to be unimpressive in some parts of the movie. For instance, he had already fallen in love with his leading woman in the film, but all he tried to do was to lovingly gaze at the apple of his eyes! What a great stupidity, wasn’t it? As far as the direction is concerned, it was a failure. The reason? It failed to build up a certain momentum, which will be an engrossing factor to the audience. In other words, it was an entirely snoozing film. Moreover, it was a pity on the part of the producers and the people behind the motion picture, because the novel from which the movie was adapted was really worth reading. However, the producers of the flick were unsuccessful in getting the right people to excellently suit the characterization of the film. We must always bear in mind, that a script is dumb and useless if the characters acted like “robots”. Likewise, the movie was inauthentic in every detail The location of the movie for example, the Italian town was not a depiction of a French provincial town of 1852. Perhaps, the nicest part of the movie was the exceptional beauty of the female lead star, which exemplified the “artistry” of body and beauty combined in one silent soul of a woman.
As a whole, the movie is highly recommended for “hopeless romantics” who would like to fall in love a thousand times over with a person whom we would accidentally meet in the most unexpected place. See this and let the LOVE BEGIN.
