Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming horror film Phoonk 2 is set to be released April 9th 2010. This is a sequel to his 2008 Phoonk starring Sudeep, Amruta Khanvilkar and Ahsaas Channa who also returns for their role.
The movie starts off from exactly where the first movie left of. It begins with the ghost killing a tantra practitioner. The main protagonist Sudeep and his family moved to a new home near a beach, with a swimming pool, the once cursed family is now living a happy and quite life. But not for long, unknown to the rest, they brought in something that they did not expect. The ghost followed them and enter Sudeep’s wife body, Aarti. Now the horror starts again.
Believes to be scarier than the first film, Phoonk 2 has been making a lot of buzz lately. This is because of the fact that the director himself issued a considerable challenge to anyone with about $10,000 reward if the person can watch his latest lucrative supernatural horror/thriller in a cinema until the very end, alone.
This also was the challenge when the first installment was released however the first contestant was reported to ran out of the cinema after 30 minutes. This time, the contest will conducted in a more exciting way. According to Varma, it will be done more scientifically by having the viewer fitted with a ECG machine while watching, the device will monitor the heartbeat and pulse rate. Varma added that he has consulted a doctor about the contest. To make things more interesting, the event will be shown live on a screen outside the theater for all to see.
The contest will be launch on March 10 on Phoonk 2 official website and restricted only to the healthy people around the age of 18 to 60 which is good for you if you live in India, especially in Mumbai where it will be held. “If the viewer’s heart beat stays normal, he will win Rs 500,000″ added Varma.
The unveiling of the Phoonk 2 took place in Mumbai last Monday. This movie promise a spine-tingling fare, the filmmaker left the ending of film for a possibility of a third series. After the success of the first one, there is so much to be expected out of the 2nd installment and it will be based on the reaction of the audience.

As a sidenote Phoonk 2 poster seems to have been influenced by the poster of another Asian flick. I do not know if that is true but have a look at Ram Gopal Varma’s horror flick and compare it to South Korean Director Na Hong-jin’s The Chaser. Although they are almost identical, they absolutely have a different plot.
