Evangelion 1.0 Anime fans in San Francisco have something to cheer about as Evangelion 1.0 premiers yesterday at the Sundance Kabuki Cinema. It is one of the top grossing anime film in Japan in 2007 earning about $22 million.

Directed by the original creator of the TV series “Neon Genesis Evangelion” Hideaki Anno the film starts in the distant future, half of the world’s population has been decimated by a catastrophic event known as “The second impact”. Giant mechanical monsters called “The Angels” continues bombardment of Tokyo-3 the last prodigious city in Japan, the military organization NERV is now desperate need of a solution to protect their citizens.

The people’s fate lies in the hands of Shinji, a fourteen year old boy chosen to pilot one of the most advance synthetic mechanical robot Evangelion. He is also the son of the NERV head of staff

The impressive visual effect, heartpounding soundtrack and the non stop action is one of the positive point I could think of in this movie, however, some critics have argued that the subplots are very vague with poorly written dialogue and unattractive characters.

EVA fans express support to the film many have filled out online message boards with positive remarks, an evidence that Evangelion 1.0 have lived up to their expectations.

The original Japanese voice cast for the film includes Kotono Mitsuishi, Megumi Ogata, Megumi Hayashibara, Kotono Mitsuishi, Yuriko Yamaguchi, Motomu Kiyokawa, and Akira Ishida
