spacebattleshipyamatoI admit, since our first news about Takashi Yamazaki’s live-action adaptation of Space Battleship Yamato, nothing interesting has been happening lately. However, good things comes to those who wait and that time is actually now.

A new super awesome one and a half minute teaser trailer surface recently for this big budget film. Based on anime series that premiered in October of 1974 the plot is set in 2194, an alien species called the Gamilons begin an invasion of planet Earth. Despite human’s effort to fight back, they were defeated and on the brink total wipe out. Five years later, the Earth is now polluted with bombs radiation and the survivors are now living underground. One day as Susume Kodai venture the the above-ground, he found a mysterious object which is later revealed as the communication device that fall out of the sky from a planet called Iscandar. Believe that Iscandar have the equipment to eliminate the radiation, the Earth Defense Force equips the Space Battleship Yamato to travel in space. With the fate of the humans in their hand, they must travel far away to retrieve the only hope they are looking for, with many challenges on the way.

The trailer is just one of Toho’s effort to promote the film, Japan’s leading distributor spent about $11 million for commercial alone running on all five Japanese network on New Years day. This followed by national newspaper ads, and teaser videos in all theater up until the 8th of January. This film also feature tons of cast such as Takuya Kimura, Meisa Kuroki, Naoto Ogata, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Maiko Aihara, Shinichi Tsutsumi, Reiko Takashima, Isao Hashizume and Toshiyuki Nishida.

Incorporated with the latest Computer Graphic technology, Space Battleship Yamato is slated for December 2010 release. Check out the trailer below.
